Educational Programs
We believe that education is a cornerstone of fire prevention. The Pell City Fire Department offers a variety of programs designed to equip citizens of all ages with vital fire safety knowledge and skills. These programs can be conducted in schools throughout the area upon request, often tailored for students. Our educational offerings include:
- CPR and Extinguisher Training: Hands-on training sessions to teach essential life-saving techniques and proper fire extinguisher use.
- Equipment Demonstrations: Opportunities to see and learn about firefighting equipment, either on-site at your location or in the classroom at Fire Station #1.
- Building Exit Plan Development and Instruction: For educators, we can assist in developing and instructing on effective building exit plans to ensure safe evacuation procedures in an emergency.
Fire Chief Tim Kurzejeski emphasizes the importance of early exposure to firefighters: “It’s important for children to see firefighters in turnout gear so they know what to expect if the worst should occur. Familiarity can significantly reduce fear and confusion during a real emergency.”
We encourage educators and community groups to request an educational program by filling out the form at the bottom of this page.
Commercial Services
The Pell City Fire & Rescue provides crucial services to our commercial establishments to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and enhance business preparedness. These services include:
- Staff CPR Training: Providing essential CPR training for your employees to build a safer work environment.
- Education on City Codes: Informing businesses about relevant city fire codes and regulations to ensure compliance and safety.
Knox Box System
For the enhanced safety and security of commercial properties, the Pell City Fire Department requires the installation of Knox Boxes under specific circumstances:
If your building is equipped with a sprinkler system, fire alarm, or a combination of the two, we ask that you install a Knox Box on the premises. This box is designed to securely hold any necessary keys, access cards, or other critical items to allow emergency personnel access to your business without causing unnecessary damage to doors or windows in the case of an emergency. The Fire Department retains access for use when these emergency systems are activated. For more information on the Knox Box system, please visit their website at www.knoxbox.com or contact the Fire Marshal’s office.
Inspections
The Fire Marshal and their team of inspectors play a critical role in fire prevention by conducting thorough inspections of commercial buildings, multi-family residences, and other public spaces. These inspections are vital for:
- Ensuring Code Compliance: Verifying that buildings meet current fire codes and safety standards.
- Identifying and Mitigating Hazards: Proactively identifying potential fire hazards and working with property owners to address them.
- Promoting Public Safety: Ultimately, these inspections are essential for protecting lives and property within our community by preventing fires before they start.
Regular inspections are a proactive measure that significantly contributes to the overall safety and well-being of Pell City. Click here to view the City of Pell City Fire Prevention Code
